Work Integrated Learning (WIL)

This webpage is your go-to source for vital information and details about the work based Learning (WBL) for all the university faculties. The information includes registration, Training learner guides, forms reporting documents and contact details.

All final semester students need to submit their CV’s to the Co-operative Education Department: the CV, academic record and certified copy of ID.

Company letter:
  –  Must have the correct date (date of WIL registration – no outdated letters will be accepted)
  –  No 2022 letters will be accepted
  –  No letter written “Student permanently employed” will be accepted
Students should not be financially blocked when applying for WBL registration.

It is the student’s responsibility to follow up on his/her registration.

Students MUST register within ONE MONTH from starting with training!

VUT has an annual (Jan – Dec) academic calendar set in line with the census dates; end of March and end of September.  Please see below analysis, which should be adhered to by both administrators, WIL Coordinators and Academic HoD’s:

Cycle 1

Students that register before the end of March will have their results released in June, justifying the minimum period required for WIL, six (06) months, these students can only graduate in September.

Cycle 2

Students that register before the end of September will have their results released in December to make the March graduation ceremony the next academic year.

The cost of registration for Workplace Based Learning (WBL) is R2 707.00 for the year 2024.

 NB: Additional fees

The following University fees will be automatically added to the student’s account when registering for WBL.  These fees remain the responsibility of the student:

  • Registration levy = R560.00
  • Student levy = R350.00
  • Access card = R290.00

For any queries regarding the additional fees, please contact the VUT Finance Department.

WIL REGISTRATION

Students must register within ONE month of starting with training!

All WIL registration forms should be approved and signed by the relevant WIL Coordinator before registration will take place.

It is the student’s responsibility to follow up on his/her registration.

The WIL registration form MUST be accompanied by the following documents before registration can take place:

  1. WIL registration form (obtainable from the Co-operative Education website).
  2. Appointment/confirmation letter from the company (on company letterhead, signed by mentor/manager and have a company stamp)
  3. Proof of payment (payment at VUT Finance or via bank deposit)
  4. Certified copy of ID
  5. Proof of residence (physical address)
  6. Certified copy of grade 12 certificate
  7. Updated CV
  8. Checklist (International Students)

 

The WIL registration forms can be downloaded from the Co-operative Education website. The registration form should be completed online and after completion the form should be printed out and submitted for registration at Student Admission & Registration (CW-25) or the documents can be sent via email to [email protected]  Tel: 27(0)16-950-6730.  All WIL registration forms should be approved and signed by the relevant WIL Coordinator before registration will take place.
